Avoiding Aggressive Driving
Majority of road accidents that occur everyday in the United States are due to aggressive driving. The findings of AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reveal that an average of at least 1,500 men, women and children are injured each year because of aggressive driving. They also found that that most of these aggressive drivers are young, poorly educated males with criminal records and drug and alcohol problems.
Aggressive driving is defined as incident which an impatient driver intentionally injures or kills another driver, passenger or pedestrian. Excessive braking, speeding and abrupt speed changes all waste gasoline. Those who coined the phrase "put the pedal to the metal" didn't realize that driving like a maniac will cost you big bucks.
To prevent accidents, keep your cruise control on and avoid following other cars too closely for this may lead to unnecessary braking. It is advisable for drivers to stay calm and cool when on the road to avoid untoward incidents.
Avoid tailgating. Always maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you. Try to understand if another driver causes a problem. If possible, pull over when a driver is behaving badly. Always stay within the speed limit.
